SEATTLE, WA (June 10, 2026) — Sustainable Travel International launched Humí, a new AI-powered carbon footprinting tool for tours that turns existing itineraries into emissions reports in seconds, rather than weeks. The tool replaces manual data collection and spreadsheets with a simple workflow powered by AI and Sustainable Travel International’s tourism-specific emissions methodology. It is available for free for a limited time.

Users simply paste a tour itinerary webpage link or upload a PDF. The tool then automatically:

  • Extracts key trip details, including accommodations, transportation, activities, and meals
  • Calculates emissions and generates a visual carbon footprint report with total tour emissions and breakdowns by category, itinerary component, and day

The tool helps solve one of the biggest barriers preventing operators from measuring tours: itinerary details are often incomplete and require extensive research before emissions can even be calculated. To reduce this burden, the tool automatically translates itinerary details into the information needed for emissions calculations, such as transport distances, vehicle types, and accommodation categories. When details are missing, smart assumptions are made based on the most likely scenarios, and confidence scores are provided to indicate where AI is needed to fill in the blanks in each data point. This allows tour operators to start with the information they already have and improve accuracy as additional details become available.

The tool is built on Sustainable Travel’s tour-specific calculation methodology, informed by more than 20 years of experience measuring tourism emissions. This allows it to better account for experiences such as safaris, charter flights, and snorkeling excursions that are poorly handled by generic AI tools and standard carbon calculators. It also makes it easier for operators to measure complex multi-day tours without building their own methodologies or hiring expensive consultants.

Enterprise plans allow operators to scale emissions measurement across large portfolios by analyzing hundreds of tours at once. Operators receive expert review of results and access to centralized dashboards to compare tour footprints, manage emissions data across their portfolio, and track reductions over time. Plans also include guidance on using measurement results in communications and reporting.

“Carbon measurement is the first step to taking climate action, but tour operators have been stuck with a system that makes emissions measurement far harder than it should be,” said Paloma Zapata, CEO of Sustainable Travel. “We built Humí to significantly reduce the time and technical effort required to measure tour emissions without compromising accuracy, making it easier for businesses to understand their impacts and start taking action.”

The launch comes as tour operators face increasing pressure to substantiate sustainability claims amid incoming anti-greenwashing regulations in Europe and growing traveler demand for more transparent, data-backed climate claims.

Operators can try Humí free for a limited time at sustainabletravel.org/humi.
