Reuters Events partners with Sustainable Travel International to make Responsible Business Europe 2022 a carbon-neutral event

From travel to food to facilities, collaboration helps reduce delegates’ footprint and overall impact of Responsible Business Europe’s conference in London on 8-9 June

Reuters Events Sustainable Business, the leading platform for business intelligence for sustainability, partnered with Sustainable Travel International to make this year’s Responsible Business Europe a carbon neutral event. This included measuring and offsetting the emissions generated by event facilities as well as delegates’ travel to and from the event.

The partnership follows Reuters Events plan and recognition that there is a pressing need to reduce the carbon footprint of events through conference travel and food consumption.

“We as an organisation feel that it is important to look at our own impact and change the way that we do business for the better,” says Ed Long, Head, Sustainable Business, Reuters Events. “It is important for our customers to know that by attending our events, their direct impact from attending is reduced – in addition to learning about how to enhance their own sustainability work. We are proud to have partnered with Sustainable Travel International, a leading provider of business sustainability and climate solutions, to offset the carbon footprint of the Responsible Business Summit Europe.”

“The path to net zero will require immense cross-sectoral collaboration amongst business leaders,” says Paloma Zapata, chief executive, Sustainable Travel International. “We are very proud to partner with Reuters Events Sustainable Business as they spearhead this global effort by helping them deliver their first carbon neutral event.”

The carbon offset partnership ensured Responsible Business Europe 2022 was a carbon-neutral event by supporting Sustainable Travel International’s portfolio of climate projects, which includes verified forestry and energy projects around the world. These projects fight climate change by removing emissions from the atmosphere or preventing future emissions from happening. Sustainable Travel International carefully vets every project it supports, ensuring they comply not only with the most rigorous standards for carbon offsetting but contribute to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and deliver considerable community or environmental benefits beyond carbon reduction. For instance, projects may protect the habitats of endangered species, strengthen indigenous land rights, improve health and sanitation, or create economic opportunities for local communities.
