Nicolas Desolino

As a sustainability consultant at the UK accounting firm KPMG, Nicholas manages the delivery of complex, international sustainability assurance and advisory engagements for a variety of clients. He also works tirelessly to help ensure that KPMG “walks the talk” by adopting waste reduction and water and energy conservation initiatives.

Nicholas played an instrumental role in developing the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI), a standard methodology used to calculate and communicate the carbon footprint of hotel stays and meetings. Developed in partnership with the World Travel and Tourism Council, the International Tourism Partnership, and 23 leading hotel companies, more than 16,000 hotels worldwide have adopted the methodology.

Nicolas joined the board of Sustainable Travel International in 2014 and currently serves as treasurer. Not surprisingly, he is interested in the organization’s focus on helping companies and destinations to measure the impact of their sustainability initiatives. “I am inspired by people who are fighting for social and environmental justice and acting unselfishly for the greater good,” he says.
