Jamie has spent more than 20 years developing conservation strategies for the tourism sector . He is the president of the Planeterra Foundation and vice president for social enterprise and sustainability at G Adventures, where he leads the company’s social enterprise, stewardship and community development work.
Previously, Sweeting served as vice president, environmental stewardship and global chief environmental officer for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. where he guided the company’s efforts to conserve and protect natural resources. Prior to working with Royal Caribbean Cruises, he served as senior business advisor and senior director of the Travel and Leisure program for Conservation International’s Center for Environmental Leadership in Business. “Protecting the goose that lays the golden egg is a smart business decision,” notes Jamie.
Jamie has been committed Sustainable Travel International’s work for a number of years, previously serving as board chair. “I’ve always believed in using tourism as a vehicle to protect nature and improve lives,” he says. “Sustainable Travel International has for more than a decade been at the leading edge of where the tourism industry needs to go. The challenge ahead is bringing industry leaders to the table and taking this work to scale.”
