East African responsible tourism operator Asilia Africa offers twelve different camps and lodges throughout Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zanzibar. Two of those sites, Oliver’s Camp located inside of Tarangrine National Park, and Sayari Camp located in Northern Serengeti National Park just outside the Masai Mara Reserve, have received a STEP tourism certification. Founded in 2004, Asilia Africa provides each guest a uniquely tailored personal experience, while creating lasting positive impacts on both the natural habitats and local economies in which it operates through sustainable business practices and sustainable community development.
- Both Oliver’s and Sayari Camps now offer 100% solar hot water heating for guests and staff
- A resource monitoring and reporting system exists for all properties to measure usage and consumption of resources in remote settings
- Employee “Green Teams” are established under the title “Eco-Warriors” to oversee the quality of existing efforts and focus on continuous improvements for the organization
- Philanthropic efforts support the Rhino Conservation Program, the Serengeti Lion Project, and the Cheetah Watch Campaign. All drivers, resident guides, and guests are encouraged to participate and support understanding and protection of the local species where Asilia operates
