Education and Training
From informing people how to travel responsibly to providing destinations and corporations with the guidance, tools and training necessary to protect the natural and cultural resources assets on which tourism depends, education is core to our approach and philosophy. As the proverb says, give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime
Training Future Leaders
One of the best ways to ensure that the support we provide to destinations and donors has lasting impact is through training—helping local people to build their own expertise. We provide them with the diagnostic and monitoring tools they need to assess their own situations and through customized workshops—which cover subjects such as project management and financing, marketing and storytelling and participatory planning, for example —we not only help to build local capacity but foster buy-in and commitment.
Sustainable Tourism Professionals Training Program
The long-term success of sustainability initiatives depends on champions—people who believe in and are committed to the cause. For tourism leaders who want to develop their own or their team’s skills and expertise around sustainability, we offer a certificate program that includes courses on policies, practice, standards, goal-setting and more. Our self-paced, online courses use content developed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and are geared for participants of all levels of experience. You can download the complete course catalogue here.
The curriculum we use is also available at no cost through the USAID Natural Resources Management and Development learning portal.
