Tourism Standards Associate

We are looking for a fast-learning, motivated and high-performing individual to assist our expanding Monitoring & Standards Team.  This is an unpaid position, but there is potential for merit-based compensation.

Qualified candidates will gain extensive experience in real world programs related to sustainability best practices and performance indicators for businesses and destinations.

Example projects include:

  • Norway Destination Assessment & Monitoring Tool

  • Vail Actively Green Education & Verification Program

  • Hostelling International Sustainability Management System

Key responsibilities of the Tourism Standards Associate include:

  • Assist the Standards team with sustainability management tools and monitoring key sustainability performance indicators for businesses and destinations.

  • Gather data analysis to develop global sustainability benchmarks for tourism businesses and destinations.

  • Participate in database development.

  • Assist with preparation of manuals and training materials.

  • Administrative backstopping for the Standards team

Additional essential qualifications:

  • Keen interest in assessment, monitoring, and analysis that results in solutions for change at scale.

  • Strong quantitative data analysis and reporting skills.

Additional desirable qualifications:

  • Proficient in Excel with familiarity with database design and or administration

  • Experience in graphic design and production of written manuals and video tutorials


Ideal candidates will have an undergraduate degree in tourism, business, sustainable development, management or similar.  Experience in the non-profit sector and a keen interest in travel and sustainability a plus.
